To Stay or To Go

On Sunday, May 31 we voted in favour of moving ahead with the multi-site initiative. This means change, on one level or another, for all of us. Change is hard for most people and so it is really important that we keep having conversations with one another and with God in order to process our thoughts and feelings.

Over the next weeks and months you will be encouraged to make a conscious decision to either stay at Sunnyside Grosvenor site or join with 60-80 other Sunnysiders to become a worshipping presence at a downtown Ottawa location. Whether you stay or go, you are part of Sunnyside Wesleyan Church. We will maintain one Board, one budget, one small groups program. We will join together in common church-wide events and support common missions.

Some of you already have a clear sense where God is leading you while most of you are just beginning a process of discernment.

You are encouraged to consider how you might answer the following question: Is God calling me to stay at the Sunnyside Grosvenor site or is God calling me to join 60-80 other Sunnysiders to become a worshipping presence in downtown Ottawa?

Launch Team (Sunnyside downtown)
Throughout the summer and early fall it is our hope that a Launch Team will form. This Launch Team will be made up of 60-80 Sunnysiders who believe they are called to be part of the downtown site. Each one will go downtown with a sense of what role they will play in the Sunnyside downtown congregation. The Launch Team will gather monthly starting at the end of September with the intent to have the first official worship service downtown at Easter 2010. Over the summer, Pastor Kerry would like to meet with many of you who express interest in the downtown site. If you are available, please feel free to set up a time to meet her during the weeks of July 20-24 or August 17-21.

New Opportunities to Serve (Sunnyside Grosvenor)
Sunnyside Grosvenor will need people to step into new roles as well. Each one of you who is called to stay at Sunnyside Grosvenor is also encouraged to prayerfully consider what gifts you bring to this congregation and how you might specifically serve. You are welcome to speak with any of the pastoral staff about your thoughts. May God grant us wisdom.
